CMYK

Hi, my name is Kristin Broekhuis and I am one crafty speaker. My stories and my craft projects stem from the same idea, that our lives should be full of color. As a child I loved bright colors and my room and wardrobe was filled with vibrancy. As I entered high school I struggled with depression and my outlook and wardrobe darkened. Now, as a young adult I am re-purposing my life, a life that I once believed was worth very little.Me

If the wooden pallets by my dumpster can become furniture, if the empty bottles we discard can become decorations, if an unusable bike can become a planter, if an outdated TV stand can become a pet’s home, and if a dinged up coffee table that was tossed to the curb can become a game board, then a life that is filled with struggle can also find a new story of beauty and color.

The stories that I share are ones that take the things that I enjoy in this world, music, quotes, culture, sports and art, and combine them with the most important thing in this world and the next, the Christian faith. These are stories to encourage and inspire the teenagers of today.

Color Me Yours – The story of my testimony and my life of going through “phases.” My struggles with depression, rebellion, alcohol, and other teenage and college problems, all while falling in love with sports, culture, colors, and God.

Uncovering Passion – I have learned that finding, discerning, and following a dream and a calling takes passion and a willingness to get past the discomfort that will try to slow you down.

Making Ripples – Looking at our culture there is much that needs to be changed. However, changing it is no small task. I look into some things that anyone and everyone can do to start making some ripples of change.

Waking Up To Your Fairy Tale – Highlighting my journey through the past year, I engage others to take a deeper look into their life and into their faith. I share my challenging story of waking up to the spiritual warfare that is around me and how Christianity is not just answering with simple Sunday school answers.

What qualifies me to speak to others? Being 25 years old I might not be an expert on culture, Christianity, or life, but I have experienced the culture our youth is going through as a youth myself. My life experiences, my study of marketing and culture, and my passion to reach out and inspire are a few things that inspires me to engage, impact, and entertain others.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson
